Ingredients of DIY Shower Steamer

 

Examples of essential oil blends:

  • Energizing: 20 drops of sweet orange, 20 drops of rosemary and 20 drops of cedarwood
  • Flu or Cold: 40 drops of eucalyptus essential oil & 20 drops peppermint essential oil
  • Relaxing and Soothing: 40 drops of lavender essential oil & 20 drops of geranium essential oil
  • Anxiety relief: 20 drops of geranium, 20 drops of frankincense and 20 drops of clary sage

 

Instructions DIY Shower Steamer:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch.
  2. Add essential oils to the dry mixture and stir until well combined.
  3. Slowly add a few sprays water into the mixture while stirring continuously until it reaches a damp sand-like consistency. Please note, that you have to be careful because if you add too much water too soon, the whole thing will fizz up. 
  4. Quickly press the mixture into a silicone molds or an ice cube tray, packing it tightly.
  5. Let the shower steamers dry in the molds for 24-48 hours, or until fully hardened.
  6. Once dry, gently remove the shower steamers from the molds and store them in an airtight container. They will store for up to 6 months in a cool, dark cabinet.

Simply place your DIY shower steamer on the floor of your shower, away from direct water flow. As it dissolves, enjoy the soothing steam and aromatic experience.   • Can I add less or more essential oils? Yes, you add as many as you like. I If you prefer a strong aroma you can add more.
  • What essential oil scents are best for DIY shower steamers? 
    • For a calm, relaxing vibe use lavender, bergamot, or patchouli. 
    • For stress relief use citrus scents, like grapefruit, lemongrass, or orange.
    • To help with nasal congestion use eucalyptus, peppermint, or spearmint, or camphor. 
  • Can I use DIY shower steamers as bath bombs?  No. Shower bombs would dissolve so quickly in a tub full of water, it wouldn’t be worth it.
  • What is the shelf life of DIY shower steamer? Shower steamer don't necessarily go bad but do lose their scent over time so we recommend to store them in an airtight container for up to 6 months in a cool, dark cabinet.
