"On the banks of the Oosterschelde, we pump up the seawater at the fishing village of Bruinisse on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland with the incoming tide. The Oosterschelde National Park is the largest national park in the Netherlands. Purified by sandbanks, oyster, and mussel beds, this is one of the best places to obtain clear and clean water from the Oosterschelde. Did you know that an oyster purifies an average of 5 liters of water per hour? Mussels add a little extra and purify no less than 10 liters of water per hour."
How do they make the salt - From water to salt crystal
"We use a combination of 500 years of Zeeland craftsmanship and modern technical solutions to make our salt. All these elements contribute to the craft of our work: creating an extraordinarily authentic salt product that enriches our daily life and offers a new taste sensation every time.
Before boiling, we pump the water through ultra-fine filters to remove as many microplastics as possible from the water. Also, possible dirt, such as leftover seaweed, is removed without the sea salt losing its natural mineral content. We then heat the water in our cooking kettle. The seawater evaporates and becomes increasingly salty. Has the correct salinity been reached? Then the salt is ready for the next step!"
